"I am pleased to have found an organisation with a creative edge that are willing to help guide me through the fledgling stages of my business idea. 'Less thinking about doing, and more actual doing' shall be my motto for the summer."
 Advice

Our free advice service offers both individuals and businesses the opportunity to sound out their ideas with an adviser in a one-to-one session to focus on a particular business need. Sessions are subject to the availability of our pool of part-time and independent advisers.

On initial contact with the service we would generally recommend arranging an initial advice session with one of our five regional Advisers to explore and discuss your professional development needs.

Art Form Advisers cover the following sectors: community arts, design, literature, music, performance, product design & photography, screen industries, TV & Digital Media and visual arts.

Business Advisers cover finance, HR, legal, marketing, press & PR, tax and VAT.

All sessions are appointment-based meetings and are strictly private and confidential. During a session you can expect to:

  1. discuss ideas
  2. draw up an action plan
  3. set goals
  4. be signposted to further sources of support and advice

Approved member of the Association for Coaching.

Biography
Lowri began her career as a researcher for arts, music, entertainment and children’s programme series for broadcast television.  During family years she morphed into a freelance journalist, writing features for a variety of newspapers and magazines and compiling and editing a reference book on the photographic heritage of the North East of England.

After moving to Scotland, she established and administered the Scottish office of the Producers Alliance for Cinema and Television (PACT) until 1993 and then delivered several producer training courses and business development seminars for Scottish Screen, and two Scottish employment surveys for Skillset.

A longing to return to production diverted her into the exhibition sector, devising and writing content for interactive exhibits for three of Scotland’s millennium science centres. The production of her short film ‘Frozen Assets’ in 2002 encouraged her to concentrate on writing, and in 2003 Lowri participated in the Sources, the European MEDIA screenwriting development programme. In 2004 she was selected for the pilot computer games writing course Gameplay’ hosted by the University of Abertay and from 2004-6, she administered the Scottish chapter of the Society of Childrens’ Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI). She has also worked widely in the voluntary sector, including establishing reading and writing groups for 10-12 year olds in her community. From 2007- 8, she co-managed the NESTA Ideasmart business innovation programme.

Lowri joined the Cultural Enterprise Office in 2005 as an adviser and continues to be involved in a variety of writing projects including an opera libretto Passiflora, with composer Sally Beamish; Lottery, a play for young people about dyslexia and Juggernaut, a series of children’s novels.
